Artist Biography:

Soh Young Lee is a versatile artist who uses a variety of materials, including collage, drawing, and painting. A Graduate of Ewha Womans University and Korea National University of Arts, she focuses on themes of motherhood and the experiences of pregnant individuals, capturing the beauty and complexity of these journeys through her art.

Description:

Pregnant individuals experience a complex emotions such as happiness, anger, and worry. The various thoughts and feelings of the characters in these portraits are hidden behind their fur. Much like the Korean traditional emotional restraint known as 'Han', instead of expressing anger, they suppress and swallow it. However, they cannot completely hold back the sighs that escape through their fur. This work attempts to maintain an incomplete emotional state and tension by using combination of colors. As the first series exploring existence through the fate of pregnant women, it is one of the portraits in this collection.
