Exhibition Introduction
K:art is proud to present, in collaboration with Purist Gallery, She Looked Back — an exhibition about the act of returning: returning to the body, to memory, to language, to feeling. This exhibition brings together a group of women artists whose practices are rooted not in spectacle, but in sensibility; not in declarations, but in subtleties. They do not offer fixed images of womanhood, but rather explore how it is lived, shaped, ruptured, and—sometimes—gently reclaimed.
Unfolding across illustrations, photographs, handmade books, zines, and intimate installations, the works resist loudness but remain insistent. Within them we encounter guilt, desire, forgiveness, refusal, longing, rage, and tenderness—held together in a fragile balance. There is no single story here, but many partial ones, layered and unresolved, each making space for complexity rather than certainty.
To “look back” is not simply to recall—it is to confront the inner architecture of becoming. It is to acknowledge the moments where the self fractured to endure, adjusted to please, or grew silently in resistance. Each artist reclaims that moment—not to fix identity, but to dwell in its ongoing evolution.
This is not an exhibition “about women” in a categorical sense. It is an exhibition by those who have lived inside that word, stretched it, questioned it, and sometimes quietly walked away from it. It is a conversation, not a conclusion. It holds space, rather than defines it.
You are not asked to understand every work. You are simply asked to stay.
