Exhibition Introduction

Feelings are not ephemeral; they leave traces, sediments, and imprints. An Archive of Feeling brings together a group of contemporary painters whose practices explore emotion as form, texture, and memory. Rather than treating painting as a window to representation, these works approach the canvas as a living archive—where gestures, pigments, and layers embody the complexities of lived experience.

The exhibition unfolds as a dialogue between abstraction and figuration, intimacy and distance, clarity and opacity. Each artist engages the materiality of oil paint as a way to register the fragile, often contradictory textures of human emotion. Melancholy becomes a hue; desire, a stroke; rupture, a fragment of surface.

Presented in London, the show situates contemporary oil painting within the city’s vibrant artistic landscape, while affirming the medium’s enduring capacity to hold what words cannot fully capture. An Archive of Feeling invites viewers not only to look but to dwell, to recognize emotion as a form of knowledge, and to encounter painting as both memory and proposition.
